Summary: There are hundreds of reasons why a Wikipedia page gets deleted by an administrator – and some aren’t so obvious.
Not all Wikipedia pages stick.
Administrators will often delete a Wikipedia page if it violates any part of their deletion policy. Be sure to take a look at the policy before you start your content so you can minimize the chances of deletion.
When an administrator deletes a page, it’s recorded in a special log along with a summary supplied by the administrator. It’s important that you read the summary so you get an understanding of what went wrong.
The most common type of deletions that you’ll find is what Wikipedia calls “speedy deletions”. Essentially, the criteria include vandalism, hoaxes, copyright violations, empty pages, or insufficient content within articles. Blatantly speaking, they’re the type of deletions that administrators do in rapid-fire fashion, hence the coined term.
Lack of Sources
Another type of deletion that may occur comes from articles that pertain to living people that contain no valid sources like references or external links. Remember, you must always provide proof to any claim that you write within your page. Without substantial information, Wikipedia has no way to verify whether or not your content is accurate and true.
Unlike the standard proposed deletion process that Wikipedia often does, the biographical deletion template may be removed after the editor receives a reliable source that supports the statement made about the individual.
An editor may also nominate an article for deletion in which a seven day discussion occurs to decide whether or not the administrator will delete the page. While anyone can participate in the discussion itself, it’s not based on a voting system. Rather, the argument itself needs substantiate the claim. For topics on what types of articles can be nominated for deletion, be sure to check out Wikipedia’s deletion discussion section.
